Dr. Jason Hausback is the Assistant Professor of Trombone at Missouri State University, where he also directs the Jazz Studies Ensemble II. Prior to his arrival at MSU, Jason taught at Eastfield College (Mesquite, TX) and Brookhaven College (Farmer’s Branch, TX). He received degrees from the University of Wisconsin: Madison and the University of North Texas.
While a teaching fellow at the University of North Texas, Jason was a four-year member of the internationally-acclaimed 1 O’Clock Lab Band and can be heard on “Lab 2009,” which was nominated for two Grammy awards. Other performance credits include international engagements in Europe, South America, and Asia. In 2008, he was the winner of the Eastern Trombone Workshop National Solo Competition. Jason is also a member of the Bell Street Four trombone quartet, which won the 2008 International Trombone Association Quartet competition.
Jason has served on the staff of many prominent high school marching bands in Texas, including Marcus HS (2007-present), the five-time reigning 5A/6A Texas State champions. He has also been active as an adjudicator for marching band, jazz and solo/ensemble competitions. Jason has worked with the Capital Sound Drum and Bugle Corps (2004-2006), the Madison Scouts (2008, 2009), Spirit of Atlanta (2012, 2013), the Boston Crusaders (2015, 2016), and is very excited to be joining the Phantom Regiment Brass Staff for the 2017 season.
