Mark Hourigan is the Director of Bands at Novi High School. He has held that position since 2002. Prior to his appointment to Novi High School, Mr. Hourigan taught in the Elkhart Community Schools (1990 – 1993) and the St. Joseph Public Schools (1993-1999). Mr. Hourigan oversees the entire Novi High School Band Program, which includes three concert ensembles, a jazz ensemble, Novi Percussion winter drumline, 2 winter color guards, and the Wildcat Marching Band.
Mr. Hourigan has Bachelors (1990) and Masters Degree’s (2000) in Music from Western Michigan University. Mr. Hourigan is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Wind Conducting at Michigan State University with Dr. Kevin Sedatole. Hourigan’s saxophone professors include Trent Kynaston, Kevin Burner and Donald Sinta. Mr. Hourigan has performed with the Kalamazoo Symphony, the South Bend Symphony, the Lake Michigan Symphony, the Livonia Symphony, the Dearborn Symphony, and was a founding member of the Lake Michigan Saxophone Quartet. Mr. Hourigan is a former Conductor of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps (1989) and was selected Outstanding Drum Major at the DCM and DCI World Championships.
Under the direction of Mr. Hourigan, the Novi Bands have received numerous superior ratings at District and State Festivals. The Wind Ensemble has earned the William D. Revelli Award in 2005 and 2007 as the Top Performing Ensemble at the Festivals of Music in New York City (2005) and Boston (2007). The Wildcat Marching Band is a consistent MCBA State Finalist and has also been a Bands of America Regional Finalist (2003).
Mr. Hourigan is a member of Music Educators National Conference, MSBOA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Kappa Delta Pi International Education Honors Society, and was elected the American School Band Directors Association in 2007.Mark Hourigan
