Phillip Martinez is a percussionist, arranger, and musical consultant whose roots began in a small rural town, Jourdanton Tx. After receiving several accolades for his musical talents, Phil decided to pursue a Minor in Music at the University of North Texas while studying English. There, he worked with and learned from many great percussionists, including Ellis Hampton, Jeremy Noyes, Omar Carmenates, Mike Hodges, John Brennan, and Paul Rennick.
Also while in college, Phil achieved his musical aspirations with drum corps. After 3 years of drum corps under his belt, Phil decided to age out with his favorite drum corps and became a member of the 2008 Phantom Regiment. Little did he know, but that choice would lead him and his colleagues to a Fred Sanford Award and a DCI Championship. “I’m honored to have been a part of it,” he says when thinking back about the experience.
Since aging out, Martinez has been a part of the educational staff for other drum corps, including The Blue Knights and The Boston Crusaders, and has worked with the likes of Ellis Hampton and Ralph Hardimon. Phillip is humbled and truly excited to be back home with his Regiment Phamily for this next chapter in the organization’s long history.
