Sam Johnson

Sam Johnson is in his third season with the Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps, where he has served as a Tour Assistant and Interim Tour Director.

Currently, Johnson is the Director of Bands at Humboldt Middle School, located in Northwest Iowa. Here he is responsible for the 7th & 8th Grade Band and also teaches 6th & 7th-grade guitar classes. He also assists with the 5th Grade, 6th Grade, and High School Bands in the Humboldt Community School District.

Mr. Johnson is an alumnus of Iowa State University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education (2015). During his undergraduate work, he studied conducting with Dr. Michael Golemo, voice with Dr. Donald Simonson, and horn with Peter Kortenkamp. During his time at Iowa State, he served as a House Manager for the Martha Ellen-Tye Recital Hall and on the student staff with the Iowa State University Cyclone Football “Varsity” Marching Band.

Mr. Johnson is also the owner of SFJ Design LLC, a small video production company. Through this organization, he shoots and produces and videography projects for weddings & events. He is also the current Videographer with the Iowa State University Cyclone Football “Varsity” Marching Band. His company has also written drill for various high school bands across Iowa.

Johnson is a member of the Iowa Bandmasters Association and a life member of Tau Beta Sigma, National Honorary Band Sorority. Mr. Johnson is excited to be back with the Regiment this year and thankful for the opportunity to be involved in one of the most excellent drum corps in the world!
