NOTE: The first reporting to see where we stand will be announced on Facebook & Twitter at 12pm today. Make sure to follow us on: Facebook or Twitter.
After two years of heated fundraising competition that has brought in more than $141,000 combined, The Cavaliers (Rosemont, Ill.) and Phantom Regiment (Rockford, Ill.) aim to settle the score by bringing the Backyard Brawl challenge back for Round 3!
The Cavaliers and Phantom Regiment both proudly represent the State of Illinois with long and storied histories since 1948 and 1956, respectively.
As the friendly in-state rivalry has grown over the past half century, these two Midwest drum corps are preparing to bring the neighborly competition directly to fans, alumni, and supporters once again.
Phantom Regiment took the inaugural round of the Backyard Brawl fundraising challenge in 2012, and The Cavaliers came back to take the title in 2013. Now the series is even, and it’s time to settle the score!
From July 1 through July 12, loyal supporters of each organization have the opportunity to decide which Illinois corps is really “number 1” by making a tax-deductible donation to The Cavaliers via give.cavaliers.org or Phantom Regiment via Regiment.org.
Even though this is a competition, both organizations will emerge as winners as these donations directly support each corps’ mission to serve young people through the performing arts.
You can help break the tie by donating to your favorite corps online or at each corps’ souvenir booths during the early-July contests.
“This year, we’re pulling out all the stops to engage our fans and alumni to rightfully bring this championship back to Rockford,” said Rick Valenzuela, executive director of Phantom Regiment.
“Of course, it’s going to be another fun way to bring our rivalry front and center to have a wonderful impact on each organization.”
Along the way, each side will provide updates as to which corps is on top of the battle, giving everyone the chance to push their favorite corps to the 2014 Backyard Brawl championship!
“With The Cavaliers and Phantom Regiment all tied up, the Green Machine is looking to rally the base for a strong finish this summer,” said Adolph DeGrauwe, president and corps director of The Cavaliers.
“This fundraising competition is the perfect way for our supporters to determine the Midwest’s top drum corps. It’s all in their hands!”
The contest ends at 11:59pm (Central) on Saturday, July 12, with the official results being announced at the Tour of Champions Northern Illinois show on Sunday, July 13. The winning corps gets bragging rights for an entire year!
Have fun and let the Backyard Brawl 2014: Tiebreaker begin!
