Chris Murphree
Percussion Instructor

Chris is currently a Masters degree candidate at Indiana University, having graduated with his undergraduate music degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 2012. He is currently the associate instructor for the Marching Hundred Drumline at Indiana University. His responsibilities include teaching and writing for the drumline throughout the fall season. He marched with Spirit of Atlanta in 2008 and The Cavaliers in 2009 and 2010. While with the Cavaliers, he competed in the Marimba I&E competition receiving 5th place in 2010. He also marched with Music City Mystique in 2010. He worked with the Troopers front ensemble in 2011. He is currently on staff with Phantom Regiment and is one of the front ensemble technicians and arrangers for the Legacy Indoor Percussion Ensemble based out of Indianapolis. Chris has also written for and consulted with high schools and universities throughout the Midwest and the Cavaliers front ensemble.

Chris has performed in solo and ensemble competitions including Keyboard Individuals (2009, 2011 5th place) and Small Ensemble (MTSU Percussion Group 2011, 3rd place) at PASIC. He was also a performing member in the MTSU PASIC Clinic Line in 2009 (snare) presenting a clinic on incorporating world percussion styles in to the drumline setting. He has performed with the MTSU Salsa Band, Nashville Jazz Orchestra, and been involved in several recording projects with the MTSU Salsa and Steel Bands, and Row-Loff Productions. His major influences include Erik Johnson, Kevin Bobo, Michael Spiro, Lalo and Julie Davila, and Leigh Howard Stevens.
