Clay Wachholz has been involved in the drum and bugle corps activity as a performer and teacher for twenty-six years. As a baritone player he marched with the Thunderbolts (1979), Pioneer (1980-1984), and Madison Scouts (1985-1989). He went on to teach the Madison Scouts brass section from 1991 to 1997. In 1998 he spent three years with the Capital Sound only to return to the Madison Scouts full time in 2001.

Clay has degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (BA) and the University of Michigan (MM). As an active guest conductor and educator, he has given clinics on brass performance in England, Japan, Brazil and Argentina.

Clay is excited to be involved with the Phantom Regiment brass program, which he considers to be an institution within the drum and bugle corps activity. He currently resides in Mequon, Wisconsin with his wife Raquel and two year old son Nicolas.
