Going on it’s 4th year in 2006, Phantom Regiment’s Drum Major Camp is set for June 6-9, 2006 on the campus of Rockford College in Rockford, Illinois. Registration materials will be on-line soon.
Nearly tripling in size since it’s inception in 2003, Phantom Regiment is still able to ensure that this event remain a student-centered camp, with attention to individual needs as the key component. By the end of the camp not only are valuable leadership and conducting skills learned, but also students get to know each other – and their clinicians – on a first-name basis.
Brittney White attended the camp in 2005 and hails from Blue Springs, Missouri and says, “This camp is truly an amazing experience, with fantastic teachers and unique one-on-one time with the corps and fellow drum majors”.
Alex Jung came from Indianapolis to attend last summer’s camp and says that “Phantom Regiment’s Drum Major Camp teaches all the fundamentals while encouraging us to be ourselves in our conducting”.
Phantom Regiment has earned more DCI drum major awards than any other corps and proudly shares that expertise with each student. Clinicians include current university conducting professors, past Regiment conductors and a professional symphony conductor.
The camp begins with students attending an outdoor concert with Phantom Regiment live on-stage, followed by intense education sessions focusing on conducting, leadership and marching band techniques. The camp concludes with an awards ceremony. A very special moment occurs at one point during the camp when a student is chosen – as a complete surprise – to conduct the Phantom Regiment brass line!
