Dwight Emmert is in his 17th year of teaching. Sixteen of those years have been at Gibson Southern High School in Ft Branch, IN; the other year was spent at Mariner High School in Cape Coral, FL. Dwight started the marching program at Gibson Southern from scratch and his marching bands advanced to the state finals 11 times in the 12 years they competed under his direction. In the last six years of his tenure, the marching band finished no lower than 2nd place with two state titles to their credit.
Dwight’s concert bands were also among Indiana State’s best, advancing to the open class state finals seven times. Easily the smallest school represented in each of those appearances, the band had 4 finishes in the top six of the sixteen-band competition.
Dwight, who holds a B.S. degree from Indiana State University and serves frequently as a clinician and adjudicator for marching and concert bands in Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Florida. He was also a member of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps from Rockford, IL for three years in the 80’s. Dwight joined the Regiment staff as Visual Co-Caption Head in 2005.
Dwight currently serves as the middle school director in order to spend time with his two children, Andrew (11) and Anni (10).
