The Phantom Regiment Phamily is deeply saddened to learn that former Regiment member, Kevin Nesmith, passed away Sunday morning after a brief illness. Kevin was an important member of the Regiment Organization from the late 1960s through the early 1990s. He marched in the French Horn section from 1968 through 1972. From 1973 to 1977, Kevin was the Lead Conductor/Drum Major for the Regiment. After he aged out, he served many different roles for the Corps. In the late 1970s he was on the visual staff. He later served as Assistant Director for the Regiment during Mark Glasscoe’s term as Corps Director. In the mid-1980s Kevin began serving on the Phantom Regiment Board of Directors. One of Kevin’s biggest contributions to the Organization during this time was to over-see the construction of the Regiment’s first (and so far only) food truck, which made its debut in 1988.
Kevin was a very passionate person, who loved the Corps and is fondly remembered by all of the members, staff and volunteers who worked with him. Kevin leaves behind three sons, Nick, Chris and Zach, and one daughter, Rachel.
A visitation is planned from 5-7 pm on Wednesday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. in Rockford. Funeral services are planned for Thursday at 10 am at St. Peter’s Cathedral, 1243 N. Church St., also in Rockford.
Our condolences go out to the Nesmith Family.
