Phantom Regiment and world famous brass quintet – Boston Brass – to open Music in the Park series in Rockford with FREE Concert.
Come join the Phantom Regiment as we open the annual Music in the Park series at Sinnissippi Park in Rockford on Tuesday June 9, 2009 at 7:30pm. Join us on what should be a beautiful summer evening in the historic Sinnissippi Park Music Shell surrounded by majestic trees and the majestic sound of the Phantom Regiment AND the Boston Brass.
Boston Brass appears courtesy of Jupiter Band Instruments. Boston Brass performs exclusively on Jupiter Brass Instruments, as does the Phantom Regiment.
The Music Shell in Sinnissippi Park, dedicated in 1950, is an outdoor acoustic amphitheater, which can accommodate as many as 700 on benches, and up to 3,000 on the terraces and lawn. This is a favorite spot for many local and regional talents to showcase their performances. The Phantom Regiment has become known as the opening act for the concert in the park series.
This year’s performance will be the first public performance of the 2009 show entitled The Red Violin. It will also be the 2nd debut of the corps’ brand new uniforms from Fred J Miller, Inc.
This year’s concert is an extra special event for the Phantom Regiment & Boston Brass, as JD Shaw will be making his last performance with the Boston Brass on this night. Not only does JD arrange for the Phantom Regiment, but he has also served as the music director and arranger for the Boston Brass for the past 15 years. JD will be leaving the Boston Brass to embark on a new and exciting journey as Professor of Horn and Assistant Director of Athletic Bands at University of New Mexico.
We’re proud and excited to be able to host JD’s last performance with the Boston Brass here in Rockford. (JD will continue to be the Regiment’s brass arranger and brass caption head.)
This will be a great night of music! You won’t want to miss the following scheduled performances:
