Matt Petterson
Brass Instructor

Matt Petterson is a medical student at The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix, and a freelance musician in the Phoenix area, where he is a regular substitute performer with the Phoenix Symphony. He is a three-time graduate of Arizona State University, holding a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in music performance, along with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science with a minor in psychology. During his time at ASU, Matt studied with trombonists Ralph Sauer and Gail Eugene Wilson, as well as renowned tubist J. Samuel Pilafian.

A drum corps member for seven years, he performed with The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps from 2002 to 2004, and the Concord Blue Devils from 2005 to 2008. After aging out, Matt returned to The Academy as an instructor, and has now been working with the corps for six seasons. He has also served as a caption head with the marching bands of Desert Vista High School (Phoenix, AZ) and Millennium High School (Goodyear, AZ), and is currently the visual caption head at Dobson High School (Mesa, AZ).

Matt is excited to be joining the staff at Phantom Regiment for his first year with the corps.
