Phantom Regiment alumni brass players from all eras will join forces with the 2014 Phantom Regiment this June, to perform Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral. The performance will take place as part of the Alumni Homecoming at the Show of Shows on June 20th.
The event, dubbed “Project 35: Elsa’s Return to the Cathedral” will commemorate the 35th anniversary of the first time the piece was performed by the Regiment (1979).
Says Dan Farrell, corps director, “We’re all excited to see this take shape. This will be the first time I’m aware of, that we’ve had an alumni brass section combine with the current corps. We’re hoping for a strong showing.”
A strong showing indeed, as over 80 brass players are currently signed up for the event, and there are still two weeks left before the registration period ends on May 25th.
Acting as caption head for the project is DCI Hall of Fame member Jim Wren, the legendary arranger and instructor who originally arranged Elsa’s Procession for the corps in 1979. Assisting Jim will be former brass caption head and program coordinator Bill Petersen. Both are alumni of the Phantom Regiment and excited to be part of this unique event.
This will also be the debut of an updated brass arrangement of Elsa’s Procession, arranged for this event by Don Hill, the Regiment’s current brass arranger. “The Elsa’s arrangement has been updated a few times through the years and we thought it was time for her to get gussied up yet again, for this special event”, said DCI Hall of Fame member Dr. Dan Richardson, who was program coordinator when the piece was originally performed by the corps. “And I can’t wait to be one of the people performing with the corps in June.”
UPDATE – IF YOU HAVE SIGNED-UP ALREADY – ALL OF YOUR ITEMS CAN BE PICKED UP AT THE KICK-OFF PARTY, THE LUNCH WITH THE CORPS ON FRIDAY, THE MANDATORY FRIDAY REHEARSAL (if performing) OR AT WILL CALL AT THE GATE AFTER 3pm.
