Whether this is your first or fourth year playing, our percussion training experiences will have you motivated and ready to play with confidence.

All sessions are geared toward teaching the Phantom Regiment approach to percussion technique. Instruction will include basic and intermediate fundamentals as well as one-on-one coaching, battery exercises, and a look inside the current season with the Phantom Regiment percussion ensemble.

For those interested in furthering their percussion career in high school, college, drum corps, or winter drumline, this camp is a great way to prepare for all ensembles.

Nathan Hawk

Nathan Hawk is an educator, arranger, and percussionist who resides in Dallas, Texas. He currently serves as the Percussion Director for Richland High School from North Richland Hills Texas. His duties include: creating a cluster wide percussion curriculum 6-12, overseeing marching percussion, and conducting the percussion ensemble.

Prior to his appointment at Richland, Mr. Hawk was the Percussion Director at Irving High School, a private lesson teacher at Duncanville and Arlington Martin HS, and music arranger at various high schools in Texas and Pennsylvania.

Mr. Hawk has been involved in the indoor drumline and drum corps activity as an instructor, Coordinator, arranger, and performer. He was a member of the Hawthorne Caballeros (2004, 2007), The Glassmen (2008-2010), and Matrix IPE (2009-2011). As an educator Mr. Hawk taught with the Glassmen (2011 snare tech), Caballeros (2012-2013 Battery Coordinator – Front Ensemble coordinator) and arranged for the Penn State University ID (2013-2014).

Mr. Hawk received a Bachelors in Music Education from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania where he studied under Dr. Gifford Howarth

Ryan Pride

Ryan Pride is currently the Percussion Director and Assistant Band Director at Morton Ranch High School in Houston, TX. Originally from Pflugerville, TX, Ryan is an active performer and educator in the greater Houston area and has toured the United States and Europe with various performing groups. He has worked with numerous programs in Texas and Georgia, including the Georgia Institute of Technology, Lassiter High School, and Drippings Springs High School.  As a band director, Ryan has held positions at the James E. Pearce College Preparatory Academy in Austin, TX and Katy High School in Katy, TX. 

Ryan began his corps teaching experience in 2007 for the Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps. Since, he has held a variety of roles for various groups, including Memphis Sound, Forte, and the Glassmen. He joined the staff at Phantom Regiment in 2015 and has served in multiple positions, including front ensemble instructor and Battery Coordinator. In addition to drum corps, Ryan has worked with WGI groups Odyssey Percussion Theatre, Terminus Atlanta Percussion, Austin Independent, Gateway Independent, and Rise Percussion as both a battery and front ensemble instructor.

As a performer, Ryan has performed with Off the Left Percussion Group, Longmont Symphony, Boulder Symphony, New Orleans Volunteer Orchestra, and the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps. In addition to teaching and performing, Ryan is an active composer and arranger and has written for many programs in Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. Ryan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Texas State University and a Master’s in Percussion Performance with certificates in Music Theory and in College Teaching from the University of Colorado-Boulder. He is endorsed by Zildjian, Innovative Percussion, is an Honorary Member of Kappa Kappa Psi, and is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, Texas Music Educators Association, and Texas Bandmaster’s Association.

Percussion Arranger & Caption Head

Rob Ferguson

Rob Ferguson is currently the Percussion Arranger and Percussion Caption Coordinator for the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps from Rockford, Illinois. In addition to his role with Phantom Regiment, Rob is also the Director of Matrix Performing Arts from Akron, Ohio which includes two WGI indoor percussion ensembles; Matrix World and matrix Open. Rob also serves as the Music Designer for Matrix Open and as the design Coordinator and Music Designer for Matrix World and has since its inception in1999. Rob served as the Percussion Coordinator and Percussion Arranger for the Glassman Drum and Bugle Corps from Toledo, Ohio, from 2008-2012 and as the percussion Arranger for the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle corps from2012-2015. Rob previously served as a percussion representative for the MideastPerformance Association and currently serves as the Percussion Education Director for the Ohio Indoor Performance Association, as well as as a member of the WGIPercussion Advisory Board.

Rob holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Music in Music Performance from KentState University where he studied with Michael Burritt and Ted Rounds. He previously served as adjunct percussion faculty and assistant marching band director at Youngstown State University, and currently is the Design Coordinator for Firestone HighSchool and Norton High School bands in Northeast Ohio, as well as John Hersey HighSchool from Illinois, and Moon Area High School in Pennsylvania. Rob is an active clinician and adjudicator for both the indoor and outdoor marching activities. He has presented clinics on marching percussion, keyboard percussion, arranging, and amplification in the marching activity throughout the U.S. and in Europe including the2007 PAS convention, the 2008 Indoor Percussion Europe Championships, and as apart of the 2016 Chiayi City International Band Festival in Chiayi City, Taiwan. Ferguson has also performed as a marimba clinician and guest artist with numerous high schools and college percussion ensembles.

In addition to teaching, Rob works professionally as a designer, composer, program coordinator, and consultant for outdoor and indoor marching ensembles throughout theU.S. and abroad. He is the owner of Ferguson Design Solutions, a company providing custom arrangements, original compositions for both marching ensemble and concert percussion, consulting, and design resources for marching bands, drum corps, and indoor percussion ensembles in all major arenas of the pageantry arts. Rob is also a sales representative for Field & Floor FX. Currently residing in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Rob is an endorser and clinician for Mapex & Majestic Percussion, InnovativePercussion, the Avedis Zildjian Co., Planet Waves, Pageantry Innovations, and RemoInc
