Phantom Regiment conductor David Simon was named the winner of the Jim Jones Leadership Award on Aug. 9.
The award is given to a Division I drum major after a competitive process that involves an application, interview and conducting. It is named after Jim Jones, the legendary founder and director of the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps of Casper, Wyo.
David is a third-year member of the Phantom Regiment, having marching his first two seasons on mellophone. This summer, he was the guy on the front podium for the closer.
He is a graduate of Leander High School near Austin, Texas, and a music education major at Baylor University in Waco.
