ROCKFORD, Ill. (Oct. 12, 2009) – Phantom Regiment is pleased to announce the addition of Mike Sloan to its visual team for the 2010 season.

Sloan, who has been involved with drum corps and color guard for more than 25 years as a member, instructor and designer, will be assisting with staging, choreography and movement.

Currently, he is the visual and guard designer for Richland High School in North Richland Hills, Texas. Previously, he was a drill designer and choreographer for Winston Churchill (San Antonio) High School’s marching band, winter guard and winter drum line for 11 years.

He began marching in 1981 as a baritone member of the Phantom Regiment Cadets, which won five CCI titles during his time. He continued on baritone with Phantom Regiment in 1986 and then was assistant drum major in 1987 and ’88. Sloan marched with Sky Ryders as a baritone in 1989 before returning to Phantom Regiment in 1990 as a baritone. He aged out of the Blue Devils as a member of the rifle line in 1992.

Since 1993, Sloan has worked in various capacities with Phantom Regiment, Blue Stars, Blue Knights, Velvet Knights, Northern Aurora and Crossmen.

Sloan also has an extensive background in color guard, including two seasons as color guard caption head for the Crossmen. He marched in the Sundowners, 6582, Guardsmen and State Street Review winter guards spanning 1989 to 1993. He was on Sundowners staff for 3 years.

He lives in Texas with his wife of 10 years, Venessa, and their two boys, Jordan (5) and Cameron (3). Sloan, 38, is owner of Concept Designs, a marching band, color guard and drum line consulting company he started in 2003.
