Jacob Diewald is a performer and educator based out of Lubbock and Dallas, Texas. He studies Music Education with a Jazz Certification from Texas Tech University. His primary teachers are Dr. Andrew Stetson and Dr. Benjamin Haugland.
Jacob’s Drum Corps experience was with the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps in 2016 and in 2018. In performing with the 2018 World Champion Santa Clara Vanguard, Jacob was a part of the brass-line who earned the 2018 Jim Ott award along with the 2018 John Brazale Best Visual Performance award. Outside of Drum Corps, Jacob has performed with Brass Quintets, both TTU Jazz Bands, Jazz Combo’s, The Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and as a soloist in the Goin Band as well as alongside artists including Allen Vizzutti, Ingrid Jenson, John Hagstrom, Jaleel Shaw, Steve Houghton, and Bill Watrous. He also plays around both the Lubbock and Dallas areas as a freelance trumpet player. In both 2017 and 2018, Jacob was invited to compete in the live rounds of the ensemble division at the National Trumpet Competition in both the large and small ensemble divisions. In 2018, his ensemble opened for Phil Smith, Wiff Rudd, Rex Richardson, and the San Antonio Brass Band at the 2018 International Trumpet Guild Conference.
As a teacher, Jacob maintains a studio in Lubbock, Tx teaching masterclasses and lessons to both high school and middle school students in the area. Along with his studio, he has worked on the visual and brass staff of different high schools in both the Dallas and Lubbock areas. He has also served on the Goin Band leadership team as a section leader, teaching the trumpet section for the past three years.
