Originally from Jackson, TN, Taylor Criswell has an extensive resume as a marching band and drum corps instructor. Over the past 10 years he has worked with bands and drum corps in Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Mississippi. He has been blessed to have been a part of brilliant staff teams over the years that have produced both a Bands of America Class A Championship as well as a Drum Corps International World Championship. This will be Taylor’s sixth year teaching with the Phantom Regiment Brass Staff.
Currently, Criswell serves as a euphonium player with the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command Band in Newport News, Virginia. Prior to joining the Army, Taylor was the Director of Instrumental Music at FJ Reitz High School in Evansville Indiana where he conducted the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Band, String Orchestra, and Chamber Strings.
Taylor holds a Masters Degree in Music Education and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Euphonium Performance from the University of North Alabama where he had the pleasure of studying music performance and conducting with Dr. Lloyd Jones, Dr. Edd Jones, Dr. Eddie Elsey, and Dr. Ian Loeppky. During his time at UNA he served as the principal euphonium with the UNA Wind Ensemble, bass trombonist with the Jazz and Studio Lab Band, principal euphonium with the UNA Brass Ensemble, and low brass section leader for the Pride of Dixie Marching Band. He studied voice and opera with Dr. Soojeong Lee and also served as graduate assistant with the UNA Choirs.
Taylor holds memberships in Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society, Kappa Kappa Psi, Alpha Mu Lamda, and Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society.
