Phantom Regiment is excited to announce Brad Toth as its brass caption head.

He joins returning music caption heads and designers Will Pitts, Rob Ferguson and Derrick Shannon.

Toth, who teaches instrumental music at Byron Nelson High School in Fort Worth, Texas, has been involved in music education for 16 years. He is active as a band director, drum corps instructor and clinician throughout the United States and internationally. Most recently, he was brass caption head for the Blue Knights, a role he had held since 2012. Prior to that, he was a visual and brass instructor for The Cadets.

“Brad and his team have proven their worth in both the drum corps and marching band worlds, and I think they bring an exciting variety of talent, wisdom, and expertise to the Phantom Regiment,” Pitts said.

Toth, who said Phantom Regiment was the first drum corps he auditioned for (1996), also has experience as a marching member. He was a lead trumpet for The Cadets for four years and was drum major in 2001. He lives in Fort Worth, Texas with his wife, Sara.

He emphasizes that he and his staff will bring passion for making music to Phantom Regiment, deriving joy from excellence.

“(Fans) should expect quality and musicality above all else, but it goes without saying that we’ll play with a lot of power as well,” Toth said.

He will work alongside percussion caption head Derrick Shannon, who is entering his fourth season in that role.

Shannon is an independent composer and arranger for band and winter percussion ensembles, as well as the director of percussive arts at Plainfield (Ind.) Community Schools and percussion ensemble director for Legacy Performing Arts.

Rob Ferguson and Will Pitts return as the percussion and brass arrangers. Ferguson is the director and music designer for Ohio-based Matrix, a WGI World Class percussion finalist, while Pitts is an independent composer and music arranger in Atlanta.
