Backyard Brawl: The Cavaliers vs. Phantom Regiment…Round 2

The Brawl is back…Round 2! Last year s inaugural Backyard Brawl was won with an impressive final push by the Regiment. Who will win round 2? Only our supporters will be able to decide which DCI World Champion takes home the title belt in this fight!

The Cavaliers and Phantom Regiment both proudly represent the State of Illinois with long and storied histories since 1948 and 1956, respectively. As the friendly in-state rivalry has grown over the past half century, these two Midwest drum corps are ready to bring the neighborly competition directly to the fans once again.

Backyard Brawl – A Fundraising Challenge between The Cavaliers and Phantom Regiment!

From July 1 to July 13, friends, fans, family and alumni have the opportunity to decide which Illinois corps is really “number 1” by making a tax-deductible donation to The Cavaliers via give.cavaliers.org or Phantom Regiment via Regiment.org.

Even though Regiment was designated the winner last year, in reality both organizations were winners. The combined total donations received were over $60,000. These donations help to offset the rising touring costs, and are dearly needed again this year.

Please help choose the round 2 winner and donate to your favorite corps! Will the Regiment stay undefeated? Or will the Cavaliers fight back with a vengeance?

You can donate online or at each corps souvenir booths during the contest.

Along the way, each side will provide updates as to which corps is on top of the battle, giving everyone the chance to push their favorite corps to the 2013 Backyard Brawl championship!

“The Cavaliers had Regiment all the way until the final day last year for this challenge, and we’ll be looking to our closest supporters, especially our dedicated alumni, to make sure we finish strong, and ahead of Regiment, in 2013,” said Adolph DeGrauwe, president and corps director of The Cavaliers. “While this is a light-hearted fundraising campaign, we really can’t thank our supporters and donors enough for standing in our corner!”

The contest ends at 11:59pm on Saturday, July 13, with the official results being announced at the Tour of Champions Northern Illinois show on Sunday, July 14. The winning corps gets bragging rights for an entire year!

“We were able to win it easily last year, but we know they re a formidable opponent with many fans across the globe. We hope our fans come out once again to support us,” added Rick Valenzuela, executive director of Phantom Regiment. “This challenge gives our dedicated friends, fans, family and alumni the chance to support each corps and have a little fun!”

Have fun and let the Backyard Brawl begin!
