Phantom Regiment is proud to accept an invitation to perform at the Opening Cermonies of the Illinois State Special Olympics, to be held June 16 at Illinois State University in Normal, Ill.

The corps was the opening act for this event in 2003 and 2005 and is excited to return for a third engagement.

“Special Olympians share the same ideals as drum corps members,” Regiment director Pat Seidling says. “Hard work, team effort and good sportmanship are the hallmarks of both drum corps and Special Olympics. We couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this great event.”

The corps will do a full-field performance in the Illinois State University stadium as well as provide music for the torch lighting.

Tracy Hilliard of the Special Olympics Illinois organization has this to say about Regiment’s involvement:

“Special Olympics Illinois is very excited about the return of Phantom Regiment to our Summer Games. Their performances are phenomenal and add an indescribable amount of energy and excitement to Opening Ceremonies. Most of the athletes would never have the opportunity to see a group of
this caliber and Special Olympics appreciates the commitment Phantom Regiment has made to our organization.”

“Besides the fantastic performance, Phantom Regiment members take the time to talk with athletes, answer the multitude of questions and ask questions of their own about the athletes. The athletes appreciate this display of mutual respect. Special Olympics Illinois looks forward to the continued involvement of Phantom Regiment.”
